If bustin' makes you feel good, then this bit of news should be music to your ears, as Ghostbusters 3 is set to begin filming next month. We first got wind that Sony had teamed with filmmaker Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, for a new sequel in the beloved horror/comedy franchise back in January. Now, we have word on when filming will begin, as well as how long it's going to take, which gives us some idea of how big the studio is going with this one.

According to a new report, production on Ghostbusters 3 is set to begin on July 14 in Calgary, Canada. It's expected that filming will wrap up on October 7. That means they are going to be shooting for nearly three months. With that in mind, though not terribly surprising, we should expect this to be on the level of a tentpole summer blockbuster. A three-month shoot means significant investment on the studio's part. Though, it's understandable why they might feel it's worth the money in this case.

Paul Feig's 2016 female-fronted Ghostbusters reboot wound up being a pretty big box office flop. However, it wasn't connected to the universe as the original movies. This, on the other hand, will serve as a sequel to Ghostbusters 2. It will, however, be centered on a new cast of younger characters who take up the ghost busting mantle. Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things fame and rising star McKenna Grace, who was recently seen in Captain Marvel, will fill out two of those roles, with The Leftovers star Carrie Coon on board as their mother. Though not confirmed, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and even Bill Murray have all stated their willingness to sign on. So we would expect them to be a part of it.

The movie was developed behind the scenes rather quietly, which allowed for Sony to make a splashy announcement earlier this year, which included a teaser trailer shot by Jason Reitman. Outside of Reitman, the creative team includes Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the screenplay alongside the director. Some other key members of the team include cinematographer Eric Steelberg (A Quiet Place), costume designer Danny Glicker (Bad Times at the El Royale), production designer François Audouy (Logan), supervising art director Tom Reta (The Cabin in the Woods) and visual effects supervisor Sheena Duggal (Doctor Strange).

Plot details for the sequel are still being kept under wraps. With filming just around the corner, we should be hearing more in regards to casting in the very near future. Ghostbusters Fan Fest is set to take place this weekend and Jason Reitman will be on hand. It wouldn't be too terribly surprising if we get some kind of announcement during the event. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details on the project are made available. Ghostbusters 3 is set to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2020.
