Ghostbusters fans were given a gift from Jason Reitman today. The director delivered the first Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer and fans should be pretty excited. It's been a long time coming for the often-talked about sequel, and for a while, it didn't look like it was going to happen at all. With that being said, Reitman never saw himself taking on the franchise that his father first helmed in the mid-80s, but he ended up having a vision and chasing it. Now, Reitman wants to deliver a love letter to Ghostbusters fans from all over the world.

Before the trailer arrived, we learned that the new Ghostbusters movie title is officially Ghostbusters: Afterlife. As for Jason Reitman's original vision, he saw a young girl with a proton pack in her hand. From there, the ideas started flowing and went from a lone girl to a family. Said family is portrayed by Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace in Ghostbusters: Aftermath. Paul Rudd is also on board as a teacher in a small town and it is believed he will have a pretty sizable part. However, that has not been confirmed at this time.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is also set to star the original Ghostbusters cast, which includes Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, who are all returning from the original franchise. It is believed that Jason Reitman will be using old footage of Harold Ramis in some form or fashion. The director recently revealed there was a lot of footage left over from the first movie and teased it could be used to pay tribute to the late actor.

Ghostbusters: Aftermath started production in Calgary, Canada over the summer and then wrapped in October, so fans were shocked to see anything from the sequel at all this soon. However, the summer 2020 release date is just around the corner, so now is the perfect time to start spreading the word to fans all over the world. While the threequel has a different look and feel from the original two movies, it still seems like it comes from the exact same universe, which was done intentionally by Jason Reitman.

Ghostbusters: Aftermath is one of the most anticipated movies of the last decade, so this new trailer is a welcome surprise. Jason Reitman wrapped shooting Ghostbusters: Afterlife in October. He is trying to make something that new fans of the franchise and old fans will appreciate, which is not an easy thing to do. Hardcore fans were not happy with the 2016 female-led reboot and they are pretty skeptical of what Reitman is trying to pull off with the focus on a younger cast. It's going to be interesting to see how the long-awaited sequel is received upon its release.

For now, there's a lot of excitement surrounding Ghostbusters 2020 and what it will mean for the franchise moving forward. Dan Aykroyd has been talking the script up for quite some time and is happy that things are finally moving forward after years of talk and rumors. 2020 is going to be a big year for Ghostbusters fans and Reitman seems confident that he will be able to make the long-time fans happy with what he has created.
