Ghostbusters begot many things, including a catchy theme song, a sequel, plenty of classic one liners, toys and even an animated series. But perhaps most beloved of all things Ghostbusters is the Hi-C Ecto Cooler. And as some suspected, it may be making a comeback in anticipation of the new Ghostbusters reboot that arrives next summer. But will it still taste the same?

Ecto Cooler is arguably the most popular Hi-C flavor ever introduced on the market. It began appearing in juice boxes across america in 1987. It was a tie-in to The Real Ghost Busters animated series. But sadly, it has not been sold in over a decade.

That appears to be changing. ComicBook.com reports that Coca-Cola, owners of the Hi-C juice brand, have just filed to renew their Ecto Cooler trademark. Most believe that this is a very strong indication that we won't just be getting an all-girl team of haint-hunting spook chasers in July. And it's the first real indication that there will be a strong marketing and merchandise push for the movie.

The original Ecto Cooler juice box featured an image of the iconic ghost Slimer, who was a villain in the first two movies, but became a mascot for the crew in The Real Ghost Busters animated series. Even though the show was canceled in 1991, the Ecto Cooler juice boxes continued to appear on store shelves throughout the rest of that decade. Slimer left the box in 1997. But Coca-Cola continuing manufacturing the flavor all the way up until 2001.

While the Ecto Cooler name disappeared from the juice box, the flavor actually stuck around, and was rebranded Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen. And in place of Slimer, consumers were confronted with a similar-looking blob of lips. The name didn't really catch on with fans of the original, and it was once again renamed in 2006 as Crazy Citrus Cooler. But that didn't work in their favor either, and the Ecto flavor was completely discontinued in 2007.

Renewing trademarks is a standard business practice for any company. So just because the name Ecto Cooler is being renewed doesn't necessarily confirm that you'll be able to taste the concoction again in the near future. It's possible that Coca-Cola just doesn't want anyone else to utilize the name for their own products as Ghostbusters fever begins to heat back up again. But due to the timing, we believe that Ecto Cooler will ride high on store shelves across America yet again. And it might wind up being more successful than the reboot.
