Oscar-nominated screenwriter Meg LeFauve is about to make the jump to directing. After writing the Academy Award-winning Pixar movie Inside Out, Disney has tapped her to co-direct the upcoming Disney Animation movie Gigantic. She will be directing the movie alongside Tangled's Nathan Greno.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Meg LeFauve would be making her directorial debut on Gigantic. The movie is said to be an updated take on the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, a story that has been told quite a few times over the years. The big twist will be that Jack winds up befriending a female giant, instead of just cutting down the beanstalk and killing the giant for the golden goose. Here is the synopsis for the movie.

"Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Gigantic follows a teenage adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds, along the way he meet Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 10 year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn't account for her super-sized personality-and who knew giants were so down to earth?"

The project was first announced during Disney's D23 event last year after spending some time quietly in development behind the scenes. Meg LeFauve was reportedly brought in to do some consulting on the script for Gigantic and that ultimately led to her taking on a bigger role in the production. Director Nathan Greno has some lofty expectations for the movie, but given Disney's recent track record, it probably isn't all that outlandish for him to have such high hopes. Here is what he had to say.

"We hope this will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk ... with comedy and deep emotion."

Nathan Greno also revealed that Gigantic has added Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez, who will be writing original songs for the movie. Not only did Frozen make more than $1 billion worldwide, but the soundtrack went platinum multiple times, so having them doing music for the movie already helps give it a leg up in terms of potential success. Couple that with the addition of Meg LeFauve and this could be the makings of another huge hit for Disney, who has been enjoying unprecedented levels of success at the box office in recent years.

In a very short period of time, Meg LeFauve has started to become one of the go-to people for Disney. She got her start with the Academy Award winning Inside Out and she also helped out with the story on The Good Dinosaur. Not only that, but she has been tapped to write the . upcoming Marvel Studios movie Captain Marvel. All things considered, it is clear Disney feels she has a lot of talent and potential. Gigantic is currently set for release on November 21, 2018.
