The first cast photos from The Girl in the Spider's Web have been revealed. Sony has been looking to get a sequel to David Fincher's 2011 The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for some time and now it's in the can as these photos were released in honor of production wrapping up. While this isn't technically a sequel, as it features a new cast and comes from a different director, it is adapting a different book in the series. Now, we have our first look at the upcoming movie adaptation of the fourth book in the Dragon Tattoo series.

While the photos shared aren't official stills from The Girl in the Spider's Web, they do showcase The Crown star Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, alongside director Fede Alvarez and some of the other cast members from a photoshoot in Stockholm, Sweden, which is where production took place. Foy takes over the role of Salander, played by Rooney Mara in David Fincher's version, which earned the actress an Oscar nomination. While we don't have an official story synopsis for the movie yet, here's the synopsis for Stieg Larsson's book, which should give a solid idea of what we're in for.

"Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker, a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it . . ."

Joining Claire Foy in the upcoming Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie are Sverrir Gudnason as Mikael Blomkvist, Lakeith Stanfield as Alona Casales, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Vicky Krieps. While many wanted to see David Fincher continue what he started in 2011 with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, his movie underperformed at the box office and the director was at odds with the studio. So, seven years later, it's Fede Alvarez, known best for his Evil Dead remake and the horror hit Don't Breathe, who gets to take a stab at the franchise.

Fede Alvarez co-wrote the script for The Girl in the Spider's Web with his frequent collaborator Jay Basu. Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight also has a writing credit on the adaptation. With production wrapped and a November 9 release date set, we should hopefully be seeing a teaser trailer in the relatively near future. Here's hoping that this manages to be as good as David Fincher's take on the series. In addition to the photos, Sony Pictures and MGM have also revealed the first logo for the movie, which you can check out along with the cast photos for yourself below.
