As one of Hollywood’s most honored actresses, the presence of Glenn Close in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was something of a surprise considering how many other stars of her caliber have balked at the idea of being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not content to have been part of the biggest movie saga in cinema history, Close will now be returning to reprise her role as Nova Prime, the head of Xandar’s Nova Corps for the Disney World attraction. The news was confirmed in a new Disney Parks video as can be seen below.

In the video, presented by Close in full Nova Prime costume, she said, “Hi Disney Park fans. It’s Glenn Close here and I am so excited to be reprising my role as Nova Prime for an all new attraction coming to EPCOT next summer called Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We can’t wait to see you all there so you can help us save the galaxy. See you soon.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy burst into the MCU in 2014 as a ragtag bunch of individuals brought together by circumstances mostly out of their control and talked into joining forces with Xandar’s Nova Corps to help defend the planet against Ronan the Accuser. While the Guardians were one of the lesser-known characters to be introduced to the franchise, following the likes of Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, they soon became established fan favorites, and we are now awaiting their third and potentially final movie which recently commenced filming with James Gunn at the helm.

Now as well as another movie to look forward to, fans can also expect to see the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride arriving at EPCOT next year and having Close as part of it once again just hits home how important continuity is for Marvel Studios and Disney when it comes to the world of Marvel both on screen and in other mediums. Close was meant to have made an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 but the cameo was cut, as James Gunn confirmed a few years ago. Away from her character, Close was also one of those who spoke out in Gunn’s defense when he was sacked by Disney for a series of historical social media posts, at the time commenting, “What are we going to do, go back to our pasts and make sure that everything we said was politically correct? Who can live like that? I just feel that there’s something wrong about that.”

Of course, all of that is in the past and Gunn is very much a part of the franchise again for at least the next couple of year and there is a lot to come from the Guardians more than just their third solo outing. Several members of the Guardians will be seen in Thor: Love and Thunder next year after last being seen flying off at the end of Avengers: Endgame with the God of Thunder in tow.

There is also the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which James Gunn has said on numerous occasions is just as important to the franchise as any of the movies, and the recently confirmed I Am Groot shorts coming to Disney+. What the future beyond that holds for the characters is uncertain, but there is usually very little set in stone when it comes to Marvel’s future and we could see at least some of this Guardians group continue to have a part to play in the next Phase of the MCU.
