Singer Elton John's Rocket Pictures is currently prepping a sequel to 2011's animated hit Gnomeo and Juliet, which took in over $190 million worldwide last year.

Gnomeo and Juliet writers Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil are currently working on the sequel script, which is entitled Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes, while Elton John is composing new music. James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their roles voicing the title characters, but no deals have been made yet.

The story will center on Gnomeo and Juliet hiring, 'the greatest ornamental detective,' Sherlock Gnomes, when gnomes start disappearing from their lawns. Here's what executive producer Steve Hamilton Shaw had to say about Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes.

"Action detective stories need some gnomes to liven them up, I'm sure Arthur Conan Doyle would agree. It will be a fun, broad family film building on the popular foundation of the first. We believe the wide appeal of our world and characters combined with strong musical elements create a terrific franchise opportunity."

Steve Hamilton Shaw is producing with David Furnish, while Elton John will serve as executive producer. It is said that Gnomeo and Juliet director Kelly Asbury will serve as a consultant, but will not direct the sequel. Production is slated to begin this fall.
