Warner Home Video's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the runaway top DVD seller its first week in stores with a strong debut at No. 1 on VideoScan's First Alert for the week ending March 12th.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the fourth film in the Harry Potter franchise that stars Daniel Radcliffe sold 5 million DVDs its first day in stores, according to Warner, and continued that momentum through the weekend. Sources peg first-week sales at nearly 9 million units, which makes the film the top-selling DVD so far this year. Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Jarhead came in second, with estimated sales of 3 million DVDs. That translates to more than $50 million in gross consumer spending compared with total theatrical earnings of $62.6 million.
