A sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong has found its human lead in Legion star Dan Stevens as the film is set to start filming this summer in Australia. The movie was given the green light following the success of the MonsterVerse mash-up that saw the Japanese lizard and mighty ape go head to head with each other and subsequently Mechagodzilla in a film that may not have been Shakespeare but certainly delivered all the monster brawl action you could want. With Dan Stevens now on board, we know who returning director Adam Wingard will have in front of the camera for Godzilla vs. Kong 2.

The news of Stevens’ casting was revealed by Deadline. The actor, who has also recently appeared in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and The Guest, is the first name to be linked to the project. But with shooting imminent, it is not going to be long before we see who will be joining him for the next round of monster mayhem.

So there have been no details released about the plot of the movie or which other creatures will feature alongside the two title beasts, but there have been rumors that the film will involve the son of Kong, and will take some of its lead from the old movies to feature the ape’s off-spring. However, like the question of whether the likes of Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and Alexander Skarsgard will be back for the sequel, we will just have to wait to find out some answers as production gets underway on the movie.

While there will be plenty of monsters on screen in Godzilla vs Kong 2, the story isn’t going to just play out on the big screen. A new Apple TV+ series is about to bring the world of Godzilla and Kong to the small screen in a spin-off series about the Monarch organization that is central to all of the MonsterVerse movies.

According to recent reports, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Wyatt Russell is bring considered for one of the main roles in the show as a “Young Lee Shaw,” with his real-life father Kurt Russell rumored to be wanted as the older version of the character. While all of this is to be confirmed, a synopsis for the series has been released, which seems to suggest that the story will take place between the two original Godzilla movies. It reads:

"Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch."

So far, the Monarch organization has been a presence in the four movies released since 2014, but with the films mostly focussing on bringing a bunch of giant creatures on screen to knock seven bells out of each other, there has been little time to really delve into the world of Monarch itself. With this new series, it seems that we are finally going to find out more about what the group is really about.
