Filming on the MonsterVerse sequel Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is now underway, with returning director Adam Wingard sharing the first footage from set. Taking to the official Tik Tok account for the monster movie, the filmmaker can be seen walking towards a soundstage before his casual stroll is interrupted by the roar of a kaiju. You can check out the video below.

As the camera trembles, Wingard says, "Oh talent's here," before rushing to the stage area and preparing himself to once again wow audiences with an epic monster mash. Filming on Godzilla vs. Kong 2 began in July in Gold Coast, Queensland, with Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard due to once again take the reins and continue the MonsterVerse. Wingard will work from a script written by Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett.

Wingard’s first foray into the MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong, landed in theaters last year and finds legends colliding as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, but they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans--instigated by unseen forces--is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Godzilla vs. Kong was received a generally positive response from both critics and audiences alike, and went on to break several pandemic box office records, ultimately grossing over $470 million worldwide as well as becoming a major hit for HBO Max.

Details regarding Godzilla vs. Kong 2 have slowly started to come through, with both the principal cast and a plot outline now making their way online. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is all set to be led by Legion and Beauty and the Beast star Dan Stevens, who will reunite with The Guest director Adam Wingard.

Stevens will be backed up by the likes of Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (Chernobyl), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) alongside MonsterVerse returning cast members Rebecca Hall (The Night House), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), and Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong). There is currently no word on whether Godzilla vs. Kong star Alexander Skarsgård will return, though with Stevens being touted as the lead for the sequel that seems unlikely. MonsterVerse stars Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler are also not expected to come back for the follow-up.

Along with confirming the cast, an official plot synopsis has also been released and teases a Kong and Godzilla team-up.

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own,” the outline reads. “The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is scheduled to be released on March 15, 2024.
