Audiences could once again hear those immortal words, "Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?" all over again, as Good Burger and Saturday Night Live legend Kenan Thompson has teased work on a sequel. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Thompson was asked whether a sequel is happening after Thompson shared an Instagram post celebrating the Nickelodeon comedy's 25th anniversary. Check out what Thompson said in response below...

"I would like it to! We are working harder on it than ever, so it's about meeting the numbers, letting them numbers match up. 'Cause I need them numbers."

So, while nothing is official just yet, Thompson does reveal that he is still working on bringing Good Burger 2 to life on screen. Not only is the comedian and actor hard at work on getting the numbers needed to get the long, long-awaited follow-up off the ground, he has already put some thought into where Good Burger 2: The Goodest Burger would fine lovable protagonists Dexter and Ed.

“I feel like [Mitchell's character Ed] should have, like, a million kids. And then [my character Dexter is] coming out of jail for something that [Ed] put [him] in jail for."

Released in 1997, Good Burger was spawned by a comedy sketch of the same name on the Nickelodeon series All That. The movie follows Kenan Thompson as Dexter Reed, a 16-year-old high school student who, after wrecking his teacher’s car, is forced to get a summer job at a fast-food restaurant to pay for the damages. There, he meets Ed, played by Kel Mitchell, a lovable, innocent, dim-wit who often causes Dexter all manner of headaches.

When the survival of the smaller Good Burger is threatened by the grand opening of major chain burger joint Mondo Burger next door, Dexter and Ed must work together to save the restaurant and their jobs.

While Good Burger was mauled by critics upon release, the movie has since garnered a passionate cult following. Especially amongst those who grew up watching and quoting it. And with the modern trend of legacy sequels, fans have been waiting patiently to return to the world of Good Burger.

Kenan Thompson is not the only one who wants to see a Good Burger sequel come to fruition, with his co-star Kel Mitchell stating that he too would be open to coming back for another bite. “You never know what can happen… the fans really want a sequel… would I do a sequel? Yeah, of course. We love Good Burger,” Mitchell said earlier this year.

He continued, adding that he and Thompson are fully aware of the following that Good Burger now has. “It’s been awesome that people love Good Burger after all these years, even Jimmy Fallon… When he asked us to do that, we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it,’ and to see the standing ovation in the audience and everyone going crazy… it was the gift that just keeps giving,” he said.

For those who can wait no longer, a sequel to Good Burger, Good Burger 2 Go, has already happened in the form of a book by Steve Holland and Dan Schneider. The story finds Ed, the only person who knows how to create his secret sauce, chasing a short-changed customer around the world, leaving the restaurant to fall into trouble when it becomes evident that the sauce has not been licensed for sale.
