The heavenly and hellish duo are coming ever closer to your television. Just in time for, well, pick your apocalypse, comes the return of Good Omens for its second season. Series director Douglas Mackinnon, as well as certain cast and crew members like Michael Sheen and Maggie Service, have been announcing on their Twitter accounts that the season has wrapped filming!

Based on the book by both Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Good Omens follows the tangled story of Aziraphale the angel and Crowley the demon as they try to prevent the newly born antichrist from bringing the end of the world. Meanwhile, the child they’ve both been following was swapped at birth with another and is living out his life like a normal everyday kid. But will his powers get the better of him? Will Aziraphale and Crowley find him in time? Meanwhile, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are gathering and Heaven and Hell are both gearing up for quite the show.

The show premiered on May 31, 2019, on Amazon Prime and was well received. Michael Sheen and David Tennant were cast as the angel and demon duo. They were joined by an equally charming cast such as Nick Offerman, Anna Maxwell, Daniel Mays, Sian Brooke, Ned Dennehey, Ariyon Bakare, and many more! The show ran for a total of six episodes, all directed by Douglas Mackinnon and written by Neil Gaiman.

Pratchett and Gaiman had been struggling to adapt Good Omens to film for years, up until Pratchett’s tragic death in 2015. After that, Gaiman at first didn’t want to even consider adapting the story… but then he received a letter in the mail from Pratchett, which was written to be sent after his death, beseeching him to finish the project. In 2017, Amazon Prime Video announced that they had given a green light to a television adaptation of the novel. It was to be co-produced with BBC Studios. The series was met with much praise from fans of the book and newcomers alike.

After the release of Good Omens, fans were curious about the possibility of more. Gaiman, ever present on social media, never denied the possibility of a sequel. But he was also clear of the closure for the main story remaining within the first season, as he says in an interview with the Austin American Statesman.

"Well, the lovely thing about 'Good Omens' is it has a beginning, a middle and an end. So season one of 'Good Omens' is 'Good Omens.' It's brilliant. It finishes. We have six episodes and then we're done."

But in 2017, the author revealed that the two actually plotted out the book’s sequel a year before the initial book was published. But when Neil moved to America, nothing became of the project after. The two became busy with their own projects and Aziraphale and Crowley enjoyed a happily ever after. With the second season greenlit, Gaiman finally made that sequel happen and those adventures continue. Rob Wilkins, who doubles as both the representative of Pratchett’s estate and executive producer on Good Omens season one said this about the show with Hypable.com.

“Terry and Neil always knew that Crowley and Aziraphale wouldn’t remain content to appear in only one story, and long harboured plans to expand upon their adventures. David and Michael’s stellar performances made this an absolute necessity. Terry would have been delighted with how they brought their characters to life, and just as delighted as I am that a second season is now underway.”

Good Omens season two still has yet to reveal a release date. But with the film wrapping that only means a big step has already been made. With footage being captured it means that hopefully trailers will be on the horizon, and with that a release date. And it couldn’t come soon enough, with the way the world seems to be these days, it’s nice to know there’s an angel and demon working hard to keep it all spinning.
