One of the big questions leading into next month's premiere of Gotham is when The Joker may make his big debut on the upcoming Fox drama. Series creator Bruno Heller explained last month that the show will be teasing this iconic villain's presence throughout Season 1, but it isn't clear when he will ultimately surface.

Today, Fox has released a new extended trailer, which shows James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) pulling a white sheet off of a murder victim, only to discover a bloody smile soaked through it. Is this the work of The Joker? In addition, we also have a featurette where Ben McKenzie explains that his character James Gordon is the one man who can bring the corruption in his hometown to an end, along with a motion poster filled with Easter Eggs for all of the show's iconic villains. Learn more about this highly-anticipated series before the pilot episode debuts Monday, September 22 on Fox.

Before there was Batman, there was Gotham. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world's greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. And what circumstances created them - the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.
