Last night, Fox's hit series Gotham returned with the Season 2 premiere "Damned If You Do", which introduced fans to a new group of villains who will be terrorizing the GCPD and the citizens of Gotham. These evil-doers were broken out of Arkham Asylum by the deadly brother-sister duo Theo Galivan (James Frain) and Tabitha Galivan (Jessica Lucas). Today, Fox has released a new red band trailer which reveals these dangerous criminals will now be known as "The Maniax." There will be some SPOILERS below if you didn't watch last night's premiere episode, so read on at your own risk.

Two of these "Maniax" we have already met before, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) and Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), the future Joker. The others are Arnold Dobkins (Will Brill), Aaron Helzinger (Stink Fisher) and Dustin Greenwood (Dustin Ybarra) although the final member, Richard Sionis (Todd Stashwick) was killed by Tigress after he didn't agree with Theo and Tabitha's plan. At the end of "Damned If You Do", it became clear that Theo is using these criminals to wreak havoc upon Gotham City, and we see plenty of the mayhem they create in this new trailer.

This footage also shows Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) confronting his former girlfriend Barbara, along with a glimpse at a scene previously teased in the first set photos, where The Joker and the rest of his Maniax crew hijack a school bus full of cheerleaders. Unfortunately, this trailer doesn't give us any insight into Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) intriguing story line, but hopefully we'll see more footage in the days leading up to Monday night's new episode. In the season premiere, Jim Gordon was forced out of the GCPD, but, through a series of events that could shape the entire season, involving The Penguin (Robin Taylor), Jim is already back where he belongs as a detective.

On the heels of his reinstatement, Gordon is thrust onto the high-profile case tracking the deadly inmates who've escaped from Arkham Asylum. Meanwhile, Galavan plans his next move, while Bruce enlists the help of his father's old friend to unlock the secrets in his office, and Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) asks out Kristin Kringle (guest-star Chelsea Spack) on a date. Nygma has changed quite a lot this season already, developing a split personality disorder that he tries to deal with. Whether he can combat this evil side of himself remains to be seen.

Gotham also stars Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Nicholas D'Agosto as Harvey Dent and Zabryna Guevara as Captain Sarah Essen. Long before Gotham returned to the Fox lineup, this season was dubbed Rise of the Villains, and as you can see in the trailer below, that subtitle is no exaggeration. Check out the latest footage, before next week's episode Knock, Knock debuts Monday, September 28 at 8 PM ET on Fox.
