After a month and a half holiday hiatus, Gotham returned last night with the mid-season premiere Ghosts, which featured the long-awaited return of Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska, a.k.a. The Joker. The hit Fox series has never been shy about bringing in both beloved and obscure DC Comics characters, and today we have word that fans should expect the iconic Harley Quinn to show up in the Season 3 finale. While we don't get too many details, executive producer John Stephens reveals in a new interview that Harley Quinn will also be a big part of the show moving forward.

Back in August, during the TCA Summer Tour, Gotham executive producers John Stephens and Ken Woodruff teased that the Indian Hill facility, the black ops program of Wayne Enterprises, will produce at least two characters that were seen in the big-screen adventure Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn and Killer Croc. While Indian Hill is how many of these villains will be introduced, no specific timeline was given for their debut. TV Guide caught up with Gotham executive producer John Stephens, who teased that Harley Quinn will likely be seen in the Season 3 finale. Here's what he had to say in a brief statement.

"We might see [her] in Episode 22."

He also added that Harley Quinn will be the "launching point" for the main storyline for Gotham Season 4. Fox hasn't issued a renewal for Season 4 quite yet, but they didn't issue a Season 3 renewal until March of last year, so Season 4 may be announced within the next four months. While the executive producer wouldn't offer any specifics on this integral Season 4 plot, he would only state that, "It's crazy." In related news, Fox has also released a plot synopsis and a trailer for next week's episode, Smile Like You Mean It, airing Monday, January 23 at 8 PM ET on Fox. Here's the synopsis for next week's episode below.

"On the run from Gordon and Bullock, Dwight (guest star David Dastmalchian) tries to revive Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan) and, in turn, activates his acolytes around Gotham City. Meanwhile, Selina's mom's (guest star Ivana Milicevic) intentions in Gotham are revealed, and the power play between Penguin and Nygma escalates as Barbara's plans are set in place."

Gotham will only be back on the air for another few weeks, before it goes on another lengthy hiatus. The show will only air Smile Like You Mean It on January 23 and then The Gentle Art of Making Enemies on January 30 before it will be replaced by the 12-episode run of 24: Legacy, which premieres immediately after the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5, before continuing Monday, February 6 with another new episode. Gotham will return Monday, April 24 at 8 PM ET after 24: Legacy wraps up its run. Take a look at this new trailer for Gotham below.
