Back in May, series creator Bruno Heller confirmed that The Joker, who he described as "the crown jewel of Batman villains," will appear on Gotham at some point, with a report from July revealing that the show plans on teasing a possible Joker in every episode. With half of Gotham's first season already behind us, fans are no closer to discovering the identity of the iconic Batman villain. This has lead some fans to formulate a theory that Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Taylor) is actually the Clown Prince. During a chat with MTV, Robin Taylor himself addressed this intriguing theory, saying it is "incredibly unlikely" that Penguin is The Joker.

"I find it incredibly unlikely, but at the same time, I have no idea what could happen. I get the scripts and I'll read something, and I will be just as shocked as everyone else is when they see it happen onscreen."

When asked about the theory, which started on Reddit, the actor revealed he has read it, and was amazed at how this person paid attention to so many minute details on the show.

"I read it, and I was like, 'Huh.' I was like, 'Nah.' But then I was so impressed at the detail that this person went into... the guy who formulated this theory. I was just amazed at the amount of attention that people are paying to the show. I mean, he was looking at the colors of my vest and my suit, and extrapolating off of that."

Whether Robin Taylor's Penguin is The Joker or not, the actor believes that the more characters from the Batman universe that are introduced is better for the series as a whole.

"The more rich characters from the Batman world that we can introduce, I think it's just better for the show. I'm just so excited to see what happens, just like everybody else. I have no idea, but I would welcome a Joker with open arms."

While the theory may certainly prove to be false in the end, it actually may not be too far-fetched to consider. After all, Gotham has altered several aspects from the original Batman comic books, namely, James Gordon investigating the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents, which didn't happen in the first set of stories.
