Grand Death Lotto Is Like a Wilder Version of The Purge

Grand Death Lotto

Details about Grand Death Lotto, a clear play on words referring to Grand Theft Auto, were previously divulged. The film is set in the very near future in which a "Grand Lottery" has been created in California that comes with a deadly catch. The winner must keep hold of winning ticket until sundown before they can legally claim their earnings. Until then, anyone else hoping to get the cash can legally kill them and take it. It sounds sort of like The Purge in the form of a bizarre lottery, though Grand Death Lotto also seems to be much more comedic, its first look image embracing the over-the-top plot.

In the movie, Awkwafina plays a woman named Katie who accidentally comes into possession of the winning lottery ticket. Her only hope of survival, and perhaps the multi-billion dollar prize, is to join forces with jackpot protector Noel (John Cena). Meanwhile, they'll have to watch out for Noel's protection rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who is also hoping to help Katie make it to sundown to claim his rich protection commission.

“I love action comedy and extreme physical comedy and this movie has both in abundance, as well as a boatload of heart and hilarity,” Feig said when the movie was announced. “This lotto will make winners of us all.”

Grand Death Lotto does not yet have a release date.
