Grant Gustin will be coming to the end of his run as The Flash this month as The CW series comes to its conclusion after nine seasons. However it may not be the last time we see the actor as the Scarlet Speedster, as Gustin is more than up for considering any future Flash projects that are pitched.

Although Ezra Miller will be seen in cinemas this summer as Barry Allen, Grant Gustin has become almost as well known for the role in The CW’s Arrowverse. While the end of The Flash series would suggest that this is the end of the road for Gustin’s version of the time-bending superhero, he doesn’t think it has to be the case and would be always open to returning again. He told Us Magazine:

“I can’t wrap my head around it right now, obviously. But if someone called me today or tomorrow and was like, ‘Hey, we have this amazing Flash idea,’ obviously it’s like, I’m gonna take that phone call and listen to that idea. And I think this is a character that I’m going to — no matter if I play it again [or not] — I’ll probably be associated with this character more than anything else in my career, for the rest of my life. So I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch. [I haven't] received any of those phone calls [but I would] for sure be open [to playing the character again.] I mean, it’s very, very close to my heart. I think it always will be.”

What Does The DCU Hold For The Flash?

The Flash Season 9 Trailer
The CW

Currently, The Flash’s on-screen appearances all seem to be about endings rather than new beginnings. As the 9th season of The Flash releases its finale on May 24, Ezra Miller’s version of Barry Allen will be edging closer to arriving in theaters on June 16. While fans are looking forward to both of these outings for The Flash, it is not yet known when and if the character will be seen again.

The CW have been pretty much wrapping up the entire Arrowverse in the last year, and that makes it unlikely we will see The Flash appearing again in that branch of the franchise. On the flip side of that, James Gunn’s DCU has yet to reveal whether Miller’s iteration of Barry Allen will have a future in DC Studios’ future movies or not.

At one point it seemed that Gustin’s Barry Allen could show up in Miller’s movie, and although it was going to happen, like some other planned cameos there just wasn’t enough room for everything to be put into the already packed film. While this is something that fans would have been happy to see, there is still a lot to look forward to in the summer’s superhero movie offering from the old DCEU, and naturally there is still the final episodes of The Flash on The CW to look forward to over the next few weeks.
