Back in January, actor Tyrese Gibson shared some fan art depicting himself as John Stewart from the Green Lantern comic books. Ever since then, he has been actively campaigning for the role through his social media platforms, even teasing that he has met with Warner Bros. for the coveted role in Green Lantern Corps., which is set for release on June 19, 2020. Now it seems the actor may have some competition, with Lance Gross sending out a cryptic Instagram photo featuring the Green Lantern logo, along with the brief caption, "In Brightest Day."

The actor hasn't clarified what, exactly, the photo means through his social media platforms, but it's certainly possible that he is in the running to play John Stewart. We haven't heard about any other contenders for the role up until this point, but Tyrese Gibson confirmed in an interview last month that he has met with Warner Bros. for the role, and that he feels there should be more black superheroes. There was also a rumor from June that revealed Chris Pine was in contention to play Hal Jordan, alongside whoever lands the John Stewart role, but that turned out to be false. Chris Pine signed on last week to play Steve Trevor in another Warner Bros. superhero movie, Wonder Woman.

Warner Bros.' confirmed the Green Lantern Corps. title during its Comic-Con panel last month. It has been rumored that the movie will feature Hal Jordan, John Stewart and a number of other Green Lantern characters from the comics. The project doesn't have a screenwriter attached or a director, so it isn't known what the studio's plans are, but the title does hint that there will be more than one Green Lantern in play.

With all that being said, if there are more than one Green Lantern in Green Lantern Corps., which one will be a member of the Justice League? Warner Bros. will release Justice League Part 1 (November 11, 2017) and Justice League Part 2 (June 14, 2019) before Green Lantern Corps. hits theaters in the summer of 2020, and it is expected that one of the Green Lantern characters will be a part of this team. Whether it's Hal Jordan, John Stewart, or another character remains to be seen at this point.

Lance Gross' most recent big-screen role was in 2013's Temptation. He most recently starred in the NBC series Crisis and had a two-episode arc on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. He was previously eyed for the title role in Marvel's Luke Cage, a role that eventually went to Mike Colter. Do you think he would be a better choice for John Stewart than Tyrese Gibson? Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more updates on Green Lantern Corps., but in the meantime, you can check out Lance Gross' Instagram photo and tweet.
