When Zack Snyder’s Justice League was finally released on HBO Max, fans were able to see the director’s vision for the superhero group in all its glory, but even that four-hour epic didn’t feature everything that had been originally planned for the movie. After more than three years of campaigning, the much-extended version of Justice League premiered in March of last year, but now, a year later, we are getting our first look at the cut cameo by Green Lantern from the updated version of the movie. While Zack Snyder finally got to make his version of the Justice League, there was one scene that he was not allowed to use, and that was an appearance by Green Lantern. The appearance would have happened at the end of the movie instead of Martian Manhunter, and the director even managed to cast Wayne T. Carr as John Stewart and shoot the scene during lockdown, but was later told to remove the scene by Warner Bros. as they had plans for the character.Considering how Snyder’s version of Justice League isn’t really going to have any future in the DCEU, it could be argued that including John Stewart would not have really made a difference to any plans that Warner Bros. already had in mind for him. However, to celebrate the anniversary of the movie’s release, actor Wayne T. Carr released a clear image of how his Green Lantern would have looked in the film.

Green Lantern Has Had a Rough Time on The Big Screen

Green Lantern HBO Max TV Series Villain and Other Details Revealed

Green Lantern hasn’t had the most remarkable run when it comes to appearances on screen. After making his live-action debut in the 2011 Ryan Reynolds movie, and although that was meant to lead to a whole franchise, the movie's terrible reviews and commercial failure meant the idea died there and then.

Being set to appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and then being cut almost makes it seem like the character cannot catch a break. Although Carr rallied the troops with a #RestoreTheSnyderverse call, it is doubtful we will see the same version of Green Lantern turn up anywhere in the future, making it another miss for the character. However, everything could change with Warner Bros. plans for a Green Lantern Corps movie in the next few years and a Green Lantern TV series for HBO Max featuring the Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz iterations of Green Lantern.

The future of Green Lantern on screen will depend on whether either of these projects actually makes it to completion and how they are received if they do. Fans of the long-standing superhero will be hoping that perhaps after his false starts, we could finally be about to see Green Lantern getting the attention they deserve. For now, we at least know exactly what we missed in Snyder’s cut scene from Justice League, even if it is probably the last new piece of Snyder’s world that we will ever see.
