Gremlins is officially 35-years old. It's hard to believe it's been that long since we were all introduced to the strange Mogwai and its secrets. Gizmo and Spike are a part of the cultural lexicon and they're being celebrated by Warner Bros. with some stunning images scanned from the original 1984 negatives, giving us a level of clarity we've never seen before. This is all tying into the upcoming Gremlins 35th anniversary 4K blu-ray edition of the iconic movie, which becomes available on October 1st.

First up is Gizmo in his famous little pink corvette and to be honest, it looks like he's a little tired and should probably pull over for a rest. Next up is a black and white photo of Gremlins director Joe Dante behind the camera. It's not clear which scene he's filming, but he looks pretty serious. Iconic Kung Fu actor Keye Luke is shown as he plays the owner of the Chinatown shop where Gizmo the Mogwai is found by Billy's dad. There's a bunch of great photos including the "Back-to-School" ad of Stripe waiting for the bus featured in newspapers in early September 1984.

Seeing how Warner has dug into the archives for these Gremlins images hopefully there will be some extra surprises on the 4K Blu-ray steelbook. Not only are they perfect for fans, but a lot of them have never been seen before, which is better for the hardcore fans out there. Warner Bros. is doing an excellent job of promoting the upcoming Blu-ray release and one has to wonder what they are going to be doing next. The studio is reportedly working with Amblin Entertainment for a Gremlins animated series, so we should be getting more news about that soon too since it's been a while since we've heard anything about it.

Going back to watch Gremlins nearly 40 years after its debut proves to be a bit shocking because of how dark the movie is. Even though it has a PG-13 rating, there's some rather crazy moments for a movie that was partly advertised for children. However, it was actually much darker in the original script, but it changed over time to take out some of the gore, including a scene where the Gremlins are eating Billy's dog then decapitating his mom and throwing her head down the stairs. That would have been a little over the top.

Ghostbusters and Gremlins hit theaters on the very same day back in 1984, which is the same year Patty Jenkins' upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 takes place. One has to wonder if Gizmo or Slimer will make an appearance since they are all under the Warner Bros. umbrella. It would be great to see a reference to the Mogwai in the superhero movie and they certainly deserve some more recognition.
