Grey's Anatomy beats all predictions and gets renewed for a 20th season. Despite losing most of its leads over the years, including the character that gives the show's name, the medical drama remains one of the longest series in television history and wants to go for much more.

Last year, fans of the series created by Shonda Rhimes received the shocking news that Ellen Pompeo, the star of the show, would say goodbye in season 19. In fact, the actress had brief appearances during the season. However, as reported by Deadline, she could still appear sporadically in the new episodes.

Along with the renewal announcement, ABC gave other important information. Meg Marinis, who has written a total of 25 episodes for the series and has served as executive producer since season 15, will replace Krista Vernoff in the role of showrunner.

The most recent episodes of Grey's Anatomy introduced a new group of interns, just as it did at the beginning of the series. Meanwhile, Meredith moves out of town concerned about the health of her daughter Zola (Aniela Gumbs), who suffers from severe anxiety, so she can attend a school that can meet her needs. Thus, season 19 showed less and less of Meredith's life to make Pompeo's farewell more enjoyable.

Pompeo is set to appear in the season 19 final episode, a two-hour event that will air in May. Unfortunately, someone who won't be back is Kelly McCreary, who is departing the role of Dr. Maggie Pearce.

"Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life and I leave with profound gratitude for every step of this journey. I am excited for this next chapter, and what the future holds,” the actress said.

Grey's Anatomy narrates the life of a series of internists who work at a prestigious hospital in Seattle. However, along with gaining experience and reputation as surgeons, they must learn to balance their personal life and deal with endless situations such as love, betrayals, and goodbyes.

In 2018, the first spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy hit the screen. Station 19 follows a group of men and women who work at the 19th fire station in Seattle, making some appearances in the original show and vice versa. Unfortunately, there is still no news on Station 19 renovation, although it has become a hit, such as Grey’s, so there will probably be more.
