Todd Garner and Sean Robins of Broken Road Productions are producing a feature based on the viral sensation Grumpy Cat, a cranky kitten named Tardar Sauce who was voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards. The project is said to be in the same vein as Garfield, where this feline will have the ability to speak. Here's what producer Todd Garner had to say.

"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy. You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."

Todd Garner and Sean Robins will produce along with Tardar Sauce's manager Ben Lashes and rep Al Hassas. No specific plot details have been given, and no screenwriter or director has been attached yet.

Grumpy Cat debuted on a Reddit post in September 2012, which spawned several YouTube videos that have become incredibly popular. Grumpy Cat has appeared on TV programs such as Today, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Anderson Live, VH1 Morning Buzz and The Soup.
