The new movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is filled with Easter eggs, and that includes some interesting cameo appearances that many fans have missed. There's even one special appearance from someone who already has a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having appeared in two of the Ant-Man movies, but for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it's as an all-new character. That would be none other than Judy Greer, who previously played Maggie Lang, the estranged wife of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), in 2015's Ant-Man. She reprised the role for the 2018 sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios released the third installment of the Ant-Man series, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Greer was not featured in the sequel as Maggie, and it isn't clear if the character will return in the MCU anytime soon. Meanwhile, James Gunn still had plans for Greer in the MCU, so he cast her as another character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the threequel, she plays War Pig, an accomplice of the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). Of course, the creature is made with CGI in the film, so that would make it easy for fans to miss that Greer provides the voice of the villain.

Gunn has been a fan of Greer's for more than two decades, so that would be one reason why he'd want to bring her in for a special cameo in his final Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Greer was one of the stars of The Specials, a superhero comedy film released in 2000 that was written by Gunn and directed by The Last of Us series co-creator Craig Mazin. In the film, Gunn also played the character Minute Man, co-starring alongside Greer as Deadly Girl.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cameo also gives Judy Greer the distinction of being one of a handful of actors to have two roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Notably, Gunn's pal Nathan Fillion appeared in a new role in the third Guardians movie, playing Master Karja after previously voicing the Monstrous Inmate in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, Gunn's brother Sean Gunn is also known for playing both Kraglin while doing motion capture for Rocket Raccoon; he also voices young Rocket in the new film. Another example from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be Seth Greenm, who voices Howard the Duck after previously playing a small role in Iron Man 2.

The threequel also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, Linda Cardellini, and Sylvester Stallone. Gunn wrote and directed the movie, and this will serve as his final Guardians of the Galaxy film, as there are no plans to ever make another installment.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in movie theaters.
