Guardians of the Galaxy was almost the biggest movie of 2014. But it was first usurped by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, with both movies being knocked off that perch in 2015 by American Sniper. None the less, it was a surprise hit for Marvel and Disney, with many considering the film a huge risk. That risk paid off, and a sequel is currently in preproduction right now. It will follow the team as Star-Lord also searches for his real dad. Earlier this month, we heard that Marvel and director James Gunn want one actor in particular to play Peter Quill's pops. And that's Kurt Russell. The actor has since confirmed this to be true. But there is a catch.

Kurt Russell has one condition before he signs onto star as Star-Lord's as yet unidentified dad in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And that is, he needs to actually watch and like the original. You see, despite it's massive $733 million haul at the global box office, the iconic actor, who can be seen in this month's The Hateful Eight, has not yet seen the movie. And he doesn't know if it's something he's even interested in. Or something that fits his oeuvre, as it were. Speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he had this to say.

"I literally got a phone call two days ago about this. I've never seen Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't know anything about it. I'm one of the four idiots that's never seen it. Many times I've heard 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.' I don't know it. So, I didn't realize that the man [James Gunn] had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can't bring anything for you. I've got nothing to here.' So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do."

At this time, no one except the director and his cast know who Star-Lord's real father is. And we're not sure that information was divulged to Kurt Russell. In the Marvel Comic Books, Peter's father is Emperor J'Son of Spartax. The one thing James Gunn will confirm is that it won't be the same character in the sequel. He had this to say about who is really the dad earlier this year.

"There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill's father is between a select two or three of us. That's been part of the plan since the beginning, that's something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu's place in everything made sense and it does, so it's all very specific stuff."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will bring back the original team, which includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Vin Diesel as Groot, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. Pom Klementieff is the only new actor yet signed onto the project. It is expected that she will play Mantis in the anticipated sequel. Michael Rooker is confirmed to return as Yondu. So, what do you think? Will Kurt Russell like the original enough to sign on for the sequel? We sure hope so? Because who would make a more perfect dad?
