Marvel's hit Phase Two adventure Guardians of the Galaxy has hit another box office milestone, passing the $500 million mark worldwide less than four weeks after opening in theaters.

Guardians of the Galaxy has earned $255.2 million domestically as of Monday, August 25, which is just behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $259.8 million take as the top domestic total of the year so far. Guardians of the Galaxy has also earned $245.3 million in international territories, although it has yet to open in key markets such as China, Germany, Italy and Japan.

While Guardians of the Galaxy will easily surpass Captain America: The Winter Soldier as the top domestic movie of the year, it still has a long way to go for the worldwide crown. Transformers: Age of Extinction has earned over $1 billion globally, $821.3 million of which has come from international markets.

Marvel has found success on the music charts as well, with the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, dubbed "Awesome Mix Vol. 1," taking the top spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart for two weeks in a row.
