It's been a banner year for Marvel so far, with Guardians of the Galaxy likely set to pass Captain America: The Winter Soldier sometime this week as the top-grossing movie of 2014. Many fans believe this Marvel Phase Two adventure, which expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, is the studio's best offering yet.

Add Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., to the list of fans, with the actor revealing at the Toronto International Film Festival, that he believes Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel's best movie yet.

"Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever. And it's odd for someone with - on occasion - an ego the size of mine to actually say that!"

Of course, Robert Downey Jr. is a veteran of five Marvel movies, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Marvel's The Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, which wrapped production earlier this month. The actor revealed that the success of those movies, and the rest of Marvel's Phase One and Phase Two adventures allowed them to take a risk with the more obscure comic book title, Guardians of the Galaxy.

"We're talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thors and the Captain Americas and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: 'Look!'

Robert Downey Jr.'s next film, a non-superhero drama entitled The Judge, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Do you agree with RDJ? Is Guardians of the Galaxy the best Marvel movie so far? Chime in with your thoughts below.
