Director James Gunn is currently in Atlanta, prepping for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to start shooting in early 2016. The filmmaker took a break from his pre-production work yesterday and engaged the fans with an impromptu Twitter Q&A, as he is often known to do. While the director wouldn't reveal any intricate details about the plot, he did offer one intriguing tidbit, saying that there is actually a "special script" possessed only by the director and Vin Diesel, which reveals the various translations of the actor's "I am Groot" line.

Much like Game of Thrones' Hodor (Kristian Nairn) before him, Vin Diesel's Groot only uttered one line throughout most of last year's Guardians of the Galaxy, "I am Groot," until the very end when the director threw fans a curveball, as Groot uttered "We are Groot." The original blockbuster featured a few conversations between Groot and his longtime partner in crime, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), which indicated that Rocket understood each different version of the "I am Groot" line. When a fan asked if Bradley Cooper also had a version of this script, since he understands what Groot is saying, the director responded that he will "loop in" both Bradley Cooper and his brother Sean Gunn, who played the on-set version of Rocket in motion capture.

The director also confirmed that he wrote the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 script by himself, after sharing screenplay credit with original writer Nicole Perlman on last year's Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn also added that the script is "basically finished," although he will tinker with certain aspects of the screenplay throughout the production process. He also confirmed that the Disney XD animated series Guardians of the Galaxy has no connection to his movies.

Earlier this week, Vin Diesel revealed that he was almost done reading the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and that James Gunn actually sent the actor a CD with all of the songs that will be included on Awesome Mix Vol. 2. While he wouldn't reveal any of the specific songs, James Gunn added that music supervisor Dave Jordan has obtained the rights to every song he asked for on Awesome Mix Vol. 2. In the first Guardians of the Galaxy script, James Gunn included the titles of each song he wanted to use, and every single one ended up on the Awesome Mix Vol. 1, which went platinum and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack.

Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) will be back for the sequel, which recently added its first new cast member, Pom Klementieff, who is rumored to be playing Mantis. Marvel has set a May 5, 2017 release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which makes it the third movie in Marvel Phase Three, following Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016) and Doctor Strange (November 4, 2016). Take a look at James Gunn's Twitter Q&A session below, and stay tuned for more on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
