Director James Gunn is currently focusing his efforts on The Belko Experiment, which he wrote the screenplay for and is producing. The filmmaker has been announcing several cast members on his Facebook page, which he also used to offer an update on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. When a fan asked if Kang the Conqueror and the Shi'ar Empire will be included in the sequel, the director revealed that they won't be featured, because 20th Century Fox owns the rights to those characters. Here's what he had to say below.

"Shi'ar and Kang are both owned by Fox. All decisions about who is in GotG2 were made a long time ago."

All we know so far about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is that fans will learn who the father of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) really is. James Gunn had already confirmed that Star-Lord's father will not be J'son, who is the character's father in the comic books. The main Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper are set to return for the sequel, but no other cast members have been confirmed.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay, with Kevin Feige producing. It isn't know when production will begin on the sequel, but Marvel has already set a May 5, 2017 release date.
