In just a few weeks, Captain America: Civil War kicks off Marvel's Phase Three lineup, with nine more films coming between now and 2019. Back in October, the studio also set release dates for unspecified movies on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020, which will likely ignite Phase Four. While we certainly don't expect any confirmation about what these three movies may be anytime soon, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with io9 that one of the Phase Four movies will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Here's what he had to say below.

"We're only working on what's been announced through the end of 2019. And it is still a big chess board for 2020 and beyond, but certainly I would say Guardians 3 is [one film that's] up there. I don't know what exactly the order will be."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently in production in Atlanta, which will be the third Phase Three movie, following Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange, and it is set for release on November 4. You may recall that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer-director James Gunn teased way back in November 2014 that he already had story ideas for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, we reported just last month that the filmmaker may not return.

James Gunn revealed during a live Facebook video Q&A session last month that Marvel has contacted him about "continuing on" with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but he's still not sure what he will do after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He added that his focus right now is making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the best movie it can possibly be, and he isn't too concerned with plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the moment. Still, it's possible that another filmmaker may be tasked with replacing James Gunn if he decides not to return. In a separate interview with Fandango, Kevin Feige teased more details about Phase Four, and the possibility of a Black Widow movie.

"Yes, for sure, I think [Black] Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away...sometimes we do that. Doctor Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we're focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019."

Going back to Phase Three, Kevin Feige also discussed one of the other upcoming adventures, Captain Marvel, which is set for release on March 8, 2019. Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) are writing the script, but no director or cast members have been announced at this time. Kevin Feige revealed that a filmmaker and cast members will be announced sometime this summer.

"I think we'll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer. (It will be) about Carol Danvers and that journey to being Captain Marvel."

Now that we know Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be part of Phase Four, what other movies would you like to see come out of the MCU? Over the past few years, the studio has established a pattern of releasing one original movie and one sequel every year, which will most likely continue into Phase Four.
