James Gunn has finally shared the unofficial Awesome Mix Vol. 0 that he used while making the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Music has been an incredibly important and distinctive element of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies so far, with Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and Awesome Mix Vol. 2 almost becoming characters in their respective movies. Now, director James Gunn has shared the mix that he listened to while making the first movie, which has been talked about for a long time but now, you can listen to it for yourself.

Taking to his Facebook page, James Gunn finally shared the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 0 playlist via Spotify. This playlist was used while the first movie was in production. This was Gunn's personal playlist that he would use to help set the mood for certain scenes while filming. Here's what Gunn had to say about the playlist in his Facebook post.

"I finally got around to making a Spotify playlist of Awesome Mix Vol. 0, the secret, personal mix I made to play on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, especially for the drunken partying scenes in the Boot of Jemiah. Enjoy!"

While it's easy to see how this mix could have helped set the right mood for certain scenes in the movie, it's also pretty easy to see why none of these songs made it onto either of the official Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks. The songs and artists included on Awesome Mix Vol. 0, such as Andrew W.K., Gogol Bordello and My Chemical Romance, are much more contemporary than anything featured on the official movie soundtracks. The mix is also all over the place, but in a way that fans will likely enjoy.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 went on to become one of the most successful movie soundtracks in recent memory. The album spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard soundtracks chart and sold 1.75 million copies in the U.S. alone. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 followed suit, becoming the eighth highest-selling album in the U.S. last year. Both albums, packed with pop and rock hits from the 70s and 80s, were nominated for Grammy awards.

We're still at least a couple of years away from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but that's going to be a new ball game when it comes to the soundtrack, as Star-Lord got his hands on a Zune at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Perhaps we'll some more contemporary tracks like the ones featured on Awesome Mix Vol. 0 in the next movie? It might be pretty fun to watch Groot groove around to Party Hard by Andrew W.K.
