James Gunn likes to give his loyal fan gifts on social media and today he did just that. In honor of "Flashback Friday" the Guardians of the Galaxy director decided to share a never-before-seen video from behind the scenes. In it, we get to see Chris Pratt try on his Star-Lord mask for the very first time.

The video was posted to James Gunn's Instagram and even though it isn't long, Guardians of the Galaxy fans should really enjoy it. In the video, we see Chris Pratt and a small team of people putting the mask on and seeing how it looks. James Gunn is also looking on and seems to be quite pleased with the results. Here is what the director had to say about the video in his post.

"Wow! I just found this footage from the first time we tried the Star-Lord mask on @prattprattpratt! #fbf #flashbackfriday"

This video is clearly from the pre-production phase of Guardians of the Galaxy. It is easy to look at it now and think that everyone must have known this movie was going to be a home run, but at that time many people thought the movie was a major risk. Prior to the release of the movie, very few Marvel Cinematic Universe fans had even heard of Guardians of the Galaxy. But the gamble paid off in a very big way for Marvel Studios, as well as James Gunn and Chris Pratt.

Guardians of the Galaxy went on to become the highest-grossing movie domestically in 2014 and set a record at the time for opening weekend August box office. The movie grossed a total of $773 million worldwide, making it a tremendous success and surpassing almost everyone's expectations for it. It also helped make James Gunn a big name in Hollywood and helped turn Chris Pratt into one of the biggest stars working today. It has also helped open the door for Marvel Studios to try and do some more inventive things like they did with Ant-Man last year and with the upcoming Doctor Strange.

Given the success of the first Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Studios was quick to green light a sequel. James Gunn returned to direct the sequel and Chris Pratt will be back as Star-Lord, along with the rest of the central cast members. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017. In the meantime while we all wait for the sequel to arrive next year, you can check out the Instagram video of Chris Pratt trying on the Star-Lord mask for yourself below.
