James Gunn and Marvel Studios have given us all an early Christmas gift because the first full-length Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer is here! Back in October the director and studio released a 90-second "sneak peek" that essentially served as a teaser trailer for the movie and Marvel Studios showed some footage to fans at San Diego Comic-Con over the summer, but that footage never made it online. This, on the other hand, is the real deal and is sure to get fans hooked on a feeling once again.

We knew that this Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trailer would be coming sooner rather than later. Not only did James Gunn make that promise when the sneak peek dropped back in October, but The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with the director and he made it clear that the trailer was on the way. He also made it clear that assembling the trailer for the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy sequel was a pretty big challenge. Here is what he had to say about it.

"With Guardians, people really go through every single little shot and try to figure out what the movie's about. And there's a lot of mysteries in Guardians 2. We were talking about how much to give away - and we're not going to give away very much."

James Gunn definitely isn't wrong. Fans will certainly be combing through every frame of this trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but that only speaks to the level of excitement that everyone seems to have for this movie. The first Guardians of the Galaxy was a massive hit to the tune of $773 million worldwide in 2014, but many didn't think it would be considering how obscure these characters were even to hardcore comic book fans. Now, just a few years later, a walking, talking tree named Groot is a household name and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is easily one of the most anticipated movies of 2017 and this new trailer is sure to fuel that fire even more.

Most of the principal cast from the first Guardians of the Galaxy is returning for the sequel. That includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot (even though Groot is a baby this time around) and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket. The sequel has added a ton of new talent as well, including Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell and Elizabeth Debicki. Karen Gillan is also returning as Nebula and Michael Rooker is coming back as Yondu.

James Gunn not only returned to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but he also wrote the script himself. Given how well he handled things the first time around and given everything we have seen so far, that is probably a very good thing for fans. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017. Be sure to check out the brand new, full-length trailer for the movie courtesy of Marvel and Disney.
