The comic book, which debuted in 1969, follows an alien race who journeys to Earth, to protect the planet from an upcoming attack by their enemies, another alien race known as the Bardoon. Nicole Pearlman wrote the screenplay, which was reportedly well-received by studio executives.

Thanos, who was revealed at the end of Marvel's The Avengers, will also play into the story line.
