Following the release of the action-packed, funny, deeply emotional trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the Marvel sequel now has a new synopsis and poster. One teases the end, while the other brings the team together. Released courtesy of Marvel Studios, the synopsis, much like the trailer, further suggests the most dangerous adventure yet for the Guardians.

"Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians."

The newly released poster meanwhile brings the team together, likely for the final time, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 bringing an end to director James Gunn’s trilogy.

Gunn recently described Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as “heavy” and “incredibly emotional.” Both things that were teased in the recent trailer as we were treated to a hauntingly sad-looking Rocket Racoon as well as several characters screaming in grief and crying. “Vol. 3 has a lot of the fun and the goofy stuff of Guardians, but it's also incredibly emotional,” Gunn revealed. “It's the end of the story for this group of Guardians, so there was a lot of emotion around it. It was very serious a lot of the time. The actors were all pushing themselves a lot, especially Chris Pratt. It was heavy.”

Will Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 be the most heart-breaking MCU outing so far? Probably, yes.

Written and directed by James Gunn, who first began the adventures of the Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the return of the core cast. Many of whom will portray their respective Marvel superhero for the final time. Thus, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars an ensemble cast that features Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sylvester Stallone.

Guardians of the Galaxy staple Dave Bautista, who has played Drax since the first outing in 2014 and is the character many are predicting will meet his end in Vol. 3, has already bid farewell to the character and the franchise. "Haven’t found the words yet. It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life," the actor said upon wrapping filming on the third installment.

The threequel will also introduce The Maze Runner, Detroit, and We're the Millers star Will Poulter as Adam Warlock. A powerful artificial being created by the Sovereign to hunt down and destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy, Adam Warlock is a favorite among Marvel fans, who were given their first glimpse at the character’s live action debut courtesy of CCXP.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
