James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script has brought a few lucky readers to tears. It's been nearly six months since Disney axed Gunn after some old tweets involving some pretty tasteless jokes were unearthed and Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are beginning to wonder if the third and final installment in the Guardians franchise is ever going to see the light of day. There have been conflicting reports in regard to which script the movie will end up using if and when the project gets off the ground.
Marvel Studios has been rather tight-lipped about Guardians of the Galaxy 3 since it was put on the shelf indefinitely. The sequel was supposed to be in the pre-production stage at this time with filming starting early next year, but that has all been cancelled. Now, it seems that a few people with sources close to the project have read James Gunn's tearjerker of a script, but there is no confirmation if Marvel Studios will use the same script that James Gunn poured his heart into at this point in time.
James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script news comes after Nebula actress Karen Gillan commented on the fact that there is indeed a script for the movie and that she is excited to finally get it out to fans. This is a bit of good news for the project, which many believe won't be coming out any time soon. Gillan did not reveal which version of the script that she read, only stating that there is one, which is all we hope for at this point in time. She explains.
"Our director won't be with us any longer but we are excited to continue the Guardians of the Galaxy story and keep delivering to the fans. That's the most important thing. I don't have any details as to when (the next Guardians film will come out) but there's a script in existence."
The Guardians of the Galaxy 3 cast regrouped to write an open letter to Disney to reconsider their decision to fire James Gunn over the summer, but the studio is not budging. Past social media behavior has gotten a few people in trouble over the last few months. Roseanne Barr sent out a racist tweet that got the Roseanne revival series canceled and most recently, Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Academy Awards after some of his anti-gay tweets were unearthed.
For now, the fate of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is up in the air. But Marvel Studios will likely begin work on it after they find the right director to take over for James Gunn. The studio has been looking, but it appears that they have not found the right person for the job at this time. Additionally, the studio might be making the wise decision to wait a bit for all of the controversy to finally go away. Let's hope that they keep dedicated MCU fans in the loop.
