Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is one of the upcoming selections that will be teased during Netflix's Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The showcase will take place June 13-18 in Annecy, France, Variety confirmed. The inaugural event is considered proof of Netflix's support for animated projects. Details regarding the festival are being released shortly after the streamer canceled the production of other animated projects, including Meghan Markle's Peal.

Audiences will be among the first to view footage from del Toro's stop-motion musical Pinocchio. The renowned director will attend the event and lead a discussion about the project. Del Toro's Pinocchio is based on the 1883 novel by Carlo Collodi, and set during the rise of fascism in Italy. Pinocchio is a part of a multi-year agreement between Netflix and del Toro that grants him creative freedom to write, direct and produce feature films and series. The cast voicing the characters includes Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett.

Del Toro is a creative consultant for Dreamworks Animation, and has worked as a producer on features including Puss in Boots, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans and Kung Fu Panda 2. He is the creator of the Tales of Arcadia franchise.
