Legendary Pictures has announced that director Guillermo del Toro's haunted house thriller Crimson Peak will start production February 10, 2014 at Pinewood Studios in Toronto. Shooting will run through May 14, 2014, under the production name Haunted Peak.

The story centers on an author who realizes that her husband is hiding a mysterious secret. Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Burn Gorman, Jim Beaver and Javier Botet are attached to star.

Guillermo del Toro is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Matthew Robbins. Lucinda Coxon provided a rewrite on the script. The director is currently shooting the pilot for his FX drama series The Strain at Pinewood Studios Toronto.

In related news, actor Tom Hiddleston, who stepped in for Benedict Cumberbatch last month, recently spoke about his first reactions to the screenplay.

"Guillermo's an absolute omniscient about that particular genre of fiction, in literature, in cinema... His precision and passion... The script itself is bone chillingly terrifying. When I was reading it for the first time I had to get up and walk around the room, then sit down again because I was so scared. But it's also so sophisticated. It's actually a very mature film. It has a very sophisticated and adult sensibility that stems from what Guillermo sees as the root of all of this stuff, which is the gothic romance literature of the nineteenth century."
