Years after publicly calling his former friend Nicolas Cage out for starring in one too many bad action movies, acting icon and notoriously choosy raconteur Sean Penn is finally starring in his own action movie. Only, this shoot-em-up looks decidedly more serious than your typical Liam Neeson affair. Studio Canal has launched the first international trailer for The Gunman, which finds Sean Penn in dire need of a bullet proof vest and some massive firepower.

An adaptation of Jean-Patrick Manchette's The Prone Gunman, Sean Penn stars as Jim Terrier, an international operative who is betrayed by the organization he worked for, and must go on the run in a relentless game of cat and mouse across Europe. The movie also stars an impressive lineup that includes Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, and Mark Rylance,

Pierre Morel directs The Gunman, in theaters on March 20, 2015. The director is responsible for the first Taken, which solidified the second half of Liam Neeson's career, turning him into a middle-aged action legend not to be tangled with. Will he do the same for Sean Penn? We also have two new posters featuring the actor in a few signature action poses. Nicolas Cage is going to be so proud!
