Hailee Steinfeld has signed on to join the cast of Pitch Perfect 2, as the first high-profile addition to this ensemble that already features Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow.

Although no specific character details were given, Variety reports that if this sequel does as well as the original, Hailee Steinfeld will take over as franchise star. Pitch Perfect was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2012, taking in $115 million worldwide from just a $17 million budget, while the soundtrack sold over 1 million copies.

Elizabeth Banks is directing the sequel, while also returning to reprise her role as Gail from the original. She is working from a script by Kay Cannon, although no story details have been confirmed at this time. It isn't known exactly when shooting will begin, but star Rebel Wilson sent out a photo from the first day of rehearsals last week, so it seems shooting may begin in the near future.

Hailee Steinfeld, best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in the Western remake True Grit, most recently starred in Ender's Game and 3 Days to Kill. She will next be seen in Hateship Loveship, Begin Again, Term Life and Barely Lethal.
