Halle Bailey shared a first look at the new Little Mermaid doll in an emotional post on her Instagram account. The Barbie style doll is made in Bailey’s image and the actress couldn’t be happier to see herself become the iconic Disney Princess.

In the video, Bailey showed off the official doll from the live-action movie, displaying the features of the figure and pointing out that the makers captured every detail “even down the mole on my forehead.” On the post she said:

"I am literally choking up because this means so much to me. And to have one that looks like me that's my favorite Disney character is very surreal. The little girl in me is pinching myself right now…I have my own Little Mermaid Ariel doll!!! I can’t believe how much she captures my version of this iconic character. Gonna go cry now.”

The casting of Halle Bailey became another of the long list of social media dividing decisions of the last few years. However, the actress has gone beyond worrying about the opinions people have on Twitter and Instagram, and is now looking forward to her performance on screen being seen by millions around the world when the movie arrives in May.

The first trailer for The Little Mermaid was originally expected to arrive during this year’s Super Bowl, but instead was reportedly pulled back at the last minute. While a short teaser has since been released on Disney’s social media channels, fans are eager to get their first real look at the movie in the coming weeks.

Halle Bailey was thrown into the public spotlight after being announced as the lead in The Little Mermaid, and at the time, the online ruckus over the casting would have been enough to make some people never want to go online again. However, the young star has come to terms with the opinions being thrown around on social media, and has recently been just enjoying the chance to play one her favorite Disney characters on screen. She previously said:

“I felt like God was lining up themes in my life with the character. Ariel has this longing for something more. She doesn't quite know what it is yet, but she has to be brave in order to find it on her own. Being away from everybody for the first time in my life, I really loved those themes of knowing that it's OK to be fearful and pushing through it. As a Black person, you just expect it and it's not really a shock anymore. I know people are like, 'It's not about race.' But now that I'm her … People don't understand that when you're Black there's this whole other community. It's so important for us to see ourselves."

The Little Mermaid will be released in cinemas worldwide on May 26 when it could give Disney another $1 billion box office smash.
