The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode is set to come to its ultimate climax this Halloween in the final part of David Gordon Green’s reinvigorated Halloween trilogy, the aptly named Halloween Ends. Green’s first movie changed the entire history of Michael Myers, picking up from the end of 1978’s John Carpenter classic and ignoring everything that came after it, including the family connection between Michael and “last girl” Laurie. Now, heading into the final chapter, the director has revealed that despite the movie’s premiere coming in around 6 weeks he is still tweaking the ending on a daily basis.

Halloween Ends will see Jamie Lee Curtis playing Laurie Strode one last time, as she takes on Michael Myers in what promises to be a fight to the death. Whose death is something that remains to be seen, but the scream queen has promised that it will be an ending that the characters deserve and fans will love being a part of.

However, director Green hasn’t quite finished working on the ending of the movie just yet. During a recent interview with Empire magazine, Green explained that the ending of the movie is something that he is still changing every day to try and get it just right. While it doesn’t seem like there is anything major that is being played around with, it is clear that Green really wants to get everything just as he wants it when the film has its dual debut in theaters and on Peacock. He told Empire:

“It changes every day. In theory, the picture is locked, but this morning I called the editor and said, ‘What if we do this one thing…’ I speak with John [Carpenter] and Jamie Lee Curtis regularly about it. It’s exciting, uncertain, satisfying and sad. I’ve enjoyed the ride but it’s probably time to get off. I think we are gonna go out with a bang.”

As you would expect, Jamie Lee Curtis has been quite emotional about her final appearance as Laurie Strode. In a time when movie storylines are no longer a linear thing, and sequels can constantly be retconned, Halloween Ends brings Curtis’ time as Laurie to an end for a third time. Having appeared in the first two Halloween movies, the story of Michael Myers moved away from her character for a long while, before she returned again in Halloween: H20 and its first sequel, Halloween Resurrection, which saw her killed by Michael. Green’s trilogy of movies now gives Laurie a chance of a different ending, having created an alternative timeline and storyline for the characters.

Curtis recently appeared in a short video to announce that Halloween Ends will be streaming on Peacock at the same time it arrives in theaters, and in that video she thanked fans of the franchise for over forty years of support. Having stuck with it for this long, it seems that they may be finally about to get an ending worthy of the characters…until the next reboot.
