The upcoming horror sequel, Halloween Ends, will not necessarily be the end of infamous killer Michael Myers. While you would be forgiven for thinking that Halloween Ends is, well, the end (the title should be a dead giveaway), Blumhouse Productions CEO and producer Jason Blum revealed that Michael Myers could wreak havoc once again following the release of the legacy trilogy finale.

"I didn't say it's gonna be the last Halloween movie. It's our last Halloween movie. We have no more rights to make any more Halloween, so it goes back to Malek [Akkad] and what he does, only he knows, but we are done. This is our last one, and I think people will be very happy."

In an interview with Screen Rant, Blum clarified some things regarding Halloween Ends and the slasher franchise as a whole, explaining that the upcoming sequel will be the end of their time with the world of Halloween – but is not necessarily the final Halloween film ever. While this means that Michael Myers could return, depending on what producer and rights holder Malek Akkad decides to do, Blum did assure fans that Halloween Ends will still have a sense of finality. A finality that will make us all very happy.

While plot details for Halloween Ends remain largely unknown at this time, it has been revealed that the sequel will take a time jump from 2018 to the present day. Considering the final moments of its predecessor Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends will find Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode on a collision course of revenge with Michael Myers, with the recent CinemaCon footage teasing a battle to end all battles — until the studio decides to resurrect Michael Myers all over again, of course.

Halloween Ends star Nick Castle, who has played Michael Myers many times since first starring as the killer in John Carpenter’s 1978 original, has teased the “surprising” story and unexpected ending of the franchise saying, "I think there might be more because of all the success of [this trilogy], but [Green] will have a very surprising storyline, an ending for everyone. It's absolutely something I don't think you would have ever guessed in terms of the way it's going to unroll."

Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Ends sees Jamie Lee Curtis reprise the role of Laurie Strode, the sole survivor of Michael Myers' 1978 killing spree, for what it expected to be the eighth and final time. The sequel also sees Andi Matichak return as Allyson Nelson, Laurie's granddaughter, who is expected to play a major role in Halloween Ends. Director David Gordon Green has even gone so far as to call Halloween Ends a “coming-of-age" story. “There's not a lot of games in it, there's not a lot of wittiness and retro joy,” the filmmaker said. “It's kind of a coming-of-age film, and it's a very different tone.”

Halloween Ends is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2022, by Universal Pictures.
