Spoiler Alert: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Halloween EndsMichael Myers and Laurie Strode went to battle one last time in the slasher sequel Halloween Ends, but there were many Halloween fans unimpressed with the film. Directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis in what will likely be her final film in the role of Laurie, Halloween Ends was met with heavy criticism from filmgoers and critics upon its release. This has resulted in the movie landing with a rotten 39% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and you don't have to look too far on social media to see the complaints from many franchise fans.

One of the biggest gripes fans seem to have with Halloween Ends is that it puts Michael Myers in the back seat. Some viewers had expected the masked murderer to have a bigger presence in the sequel after he was teased to be an unstoppable force who was just getting started at the end of Halloween Kills. Instead, new character Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) takes center stage with the bulk of the film exploring his romance with Laurie's granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak). Traumatized by his own Halloween night tragedy, Corey essentially becomes the "new Michael" in the film, going so far as to steal the boogeyman's mask to carry out the majority of the movie's murders himself.

Now, per iHorror, some fans are crying foul and demanding that Halloween Ends be remade from scratch. A new petition has been launched, which you can find at Change.org, calling for a new version of the movie to be made with more Michael Myers. This is reminiscent of when the controversial final season of Game of Thrones had a popular petition for HBO to reshoot the show's ending. The Halloween Ends petition's description reads:

"Halloween Ends was NOT a film that the Fans wanted! This was an Origins Story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween Franchise! We love this Franchise whole heartily and this version of a Halloween Movie left us sad, mad, disappointed, and Infuriated. Please give us a movie that shows us what Halloween is really about. Our Apex Predator.... the King of Slasher Movies Michael Myers! This movie gave us a weak pathetic Michael who needed his mask to survive! This isn't OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our Killer is Strong , relentless, & unstoppable! Please right this wrong! We beg of you !!!"

Will Halloween Ends Be the Last of Michael Myers?

Halloween Ends
Universal Pictures

Some fans may not be happy with how things ended, but Halloween Ends seems to be the last we will see of the original Laurie Strode. There are no current plans to develop any sequels to Halloween Ends and director David Gordon Green feels confident that this movie serves as our final goodbye to JLC's version of the character.

"After the first one, we decided to do two more," Green told Entertainment Weekly. "Her character's traveled through my whole life, and then at a point I just became the shepherd, so it was fun to inherit that character, take her on the journey I wanted to go on with her, and then say goodbye to her. I do feel confident we are saying goodbye to Jamie playing Laurie in the universe. At some point someone will maybe bring a new Laurie into something, some twist will happen, and the mythology will continue. But I do feel like this is the last time we're going to see her nervous smile and those fun enlightening attributes of Laurie Strode."

Halloween Ends is now playing in theaters and on Peacock.
