Lionsgate announced today that it has acquired from Exclusive Media the North American distribution rights to the Hammer production of The Quiet Ones, a supernatural thriller starring Jared Harris and Sam Claflin and will bring the film to theaters next year on April 25, 2014. John Pogue directed the film from a script he wrote as well. The project was produced by Tobin Armbrust, Exclusive Media's President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, and Simon Oakes, President and CEO of Hammer and Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media, along with James Gay-Rees, Steven Chester Prince and Ben Holden in association with The Travelling Picture Show Company (TPSC). Lionsgate previously picked up the UK distribution rights to the film with plans to release theatrically in that territory. The announcement was made today by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairmen Robert Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger.

Jason Constantine, Lionsgate's President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, released the following statement about this thriller.

"At Lionsgate, we have a long tradition of bringing original, distinctive horror movies to audiences. Director John Pogue demonstrates a mastery of the genre in this terrifying, jump-out-of-your seat movie inspired by actual events and co-starring actors Sam Claflin and Jared Harris, who are already part of the Lionsgate family. We can't wait for moviegoers to experience The Quiet Ones."

The Quiet Ones is inspired by true events and tells the story of an unorthodox, but charismatic professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.

Lionsgate's acquisition of The Quiet Ones reflects the studio's traditional leadership within the horror thriller genre. Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures' Saw franchise grossed approximately $700 worldwide, making it the most successful longrunning horror franchise in history. More recently, the studio claimed four straight box office successes within the genre: The Cabin in the Woods, The Possession, Texas Chainsaw 3D, and Summit Entertainment's Sinister.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Lionsgate by Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Eda Kowan, SVP of Acquisitions, and Wendy Jaffe, EVP of Business and Legal Affairs, and by CAA on behalf of Hammer.

Hammer Films CEO Simon Oakes added his own statement.

"We are delighted that Lionsgate is so passionate about The Quiet Ones and are excited to be teaming with them to release the film in both the US and UK. We are thrilled to be going to Cannes with an impressive list of distribution sales."

The film has already secured international distribution in a number of key territories including Lionsgate in the UK as well as EEAP for Eastern Europe and CIS, Independent for Benelux, Ascot Elite for Switzerland, CDC for Latin America, CCC for Japan, Nu Metro for South Africa and Front Row for the Middle East.

Other territory deals for the film include Deltamac for Hong Kong, Tanweer for India and Pakistan, D Productions for Turkey, Village Roadshow for Greece, Sam Films for Iceland, United King for Israel, PT Amero for Indonesia, Lotus Five Star for Malaysia, Cathay for Singapore, M Pictures for Thailand and Vietnam, Pioneer for Philippines and Star TV for SE Asia.

Remaining international sales will be handled by Alex Walton, Exclusive Media's President of International Sales and Distribution at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
