The latest season of the animated DC series Harley Quinn is almost upon us, and fans could not be more excited to follow another (mis)adventure of their favorite antihero. Season one of the series saw Harley go head-to-head with Joker in a bid to establish her own space within Gotham’s criminals. Succeeding in her mission, season two saw the character face the Injustice League and end in a wedding gone wrong with a ton of unresolved questions.

Despite the many loose threads left hanging, much to the fans' anxiety, season three has taken its own cool time in coming to screens. Although confirmed in 2020, the season has been through many delays, resulting in a release date only being set for this year. The lengthy period of time has been enough to push fans to the edge of their seats in anticipation of the latest season.

Now that it is almost at our fingertips, here’s all we know about Harley Quinn season three!

Season three will most likely pick up right from the chaotic ending of season two. Audiences saw a ruined wedding, Harley and Ivy running away together, and the Joker resorting to his usual habitual ways again. The season may heavily focus on the new romance between best friends turned lovers, Harley and Ivy, and the shenanigans they get up to.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly in 2020, just as Harley Quinn had been renewed for a third season, showrunner Justin Halpern stated that the transition from bad to more positive relationships would be a major focus of season three. Talking of Harley and Ivy, Halpern said:

“...these two characters have had a lot of toxic relationships in their past…So this is the first time they're both going to be in a relationship where they really and truly have affection towards one another. They have a lot of responsibility…”

The official synopsis for Harley Quinn season three, as per HBO Max, reads:

“The mayhem and madness continue in season three of this biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series. Wrapping up their “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour,” Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy. Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark (Ron Funches), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), Frank the Plant (JB Smoove) - "Harlivy" strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise.”

HBO Max released a trailer for the latest season of Harley Quinn on June 28, 2022. The trailer shows that Harley’s and Ivy’s romance is still going strong after Ivy and husband-to-be Kite Man broke up at the altar in season two. Giving fans their first look into season three, the trailer depicts utter chaos and mayhem as the new couple embark on their adventures.

“Bad is in full swing,” promises the trailer even as Gotham City is set to go green. While chaos dominates the trailer, it also looks like Ivy’s and Harley’s relationship will be tested, with Harley reportedly having “changed.”

A new addition to the third season of the show is Sam Richardson (Senior Year, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Producer Patrick Schumacker announced via his Twitter in May 2021 that Richardson was cast in a role that remains undisclosed at the time of writing. Schumacker also teased in 2021 that a special guest star would be joining Harley Quinn season three.

Eagle-eyed Harley Quinn fans quickly picked up on a hashtag used in the tweet and speculated that the guest star might have some connection to The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. Their speculations proved correct as Gunn took to his Twitter to confirm that he would indeed have a cameo role in the upcoming season. Gunn will be voicing himself as an animated character in the series.
