Harley Quinn's Kite Man is getting his own spinoff series. With fans still patiently waiting for HBO Max to release the third season of Harley Quinn, it was revealed by series co-creator Patrick Schumacker at South by Southwest (SXSW) that there will be even more to come with the animated hit getting its first spinoff. Called Noonan's, the spinoff will put Kite Man into the central role after he buys Noonan's Bar, which serves as a hub for Gotham's supervillains.

"He tries to run the bar by himself, but it doesn't turn out so easy," Schumacker said during SXSW's Not Kidding Around: Warner Bros. Animation and the Reimagining of Iconic Characters for an Adult Audience panel, per Collider. "We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that, we have with different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like Cheers for supervillains."

Kite Man is one of the more obscure villains from Batman's Rogues Gallery, though he's become a bit of a standout character with this new incarnation on Harley Quinn. Given the creative freedom the Harley Quinn team seems to have with the imaginative ways the show has portrayed other characters, the potential is also limitless for the Noonan's spinoff. This could allow for more of the overlooked supervillains to be explored in the Harley Quinn world without taking anything away from the parent series.

Created by Schumacker, Justin Halpern, and Dean Lorey, Harley Quinn follows the feisty supervillain after she finally breaks free from the Joker and embarks on a personal mission to prove herself as one of Gotham's most elite supervillains. Its voice cast includes Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Jason Alexander, and J. B. Smoove. Recurring stars include Christopher Meloni, Alfred Molina, Diedrich Bader, Wayne Knight, Giancarlo Esposito, Tisha Campbell, and Wanda Sykes.

The first two seasons of Harley Quinn were developed for the streaming service DC Universe. It was renewed for a third season in 2020, which comes with its move to HBO Max as its new streaming home. Season 3 has been in gestation for a while, with few updates on its progress. At DC FanDome 2021, it was announced that Harley Quinn season 3 was expected to arrive on HBO Max "sometime in 2022," but we are still waiting to hear precisely when that will be.

As for Noonan's, the planned spinoff series following Kite Man, the show is in its very early stages of development. At best, this means it will be a while before fans can actually see any episodes of the spinoff. It's also possible that the project ends up fizzling out before moving forward with production. That's what recently happened with a previously announced spinoff for The Batman that would have followed the Gotham P.D. but has since been shelved, according to Matt Reeves.

Harley Quinn is streaming on HBO Max. Season 3 does not yet have a release date.
