Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo and directed the latter, are planning to write and direct a third installment for Mandate Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The storyline is being kept under wraps, but stars John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to reprise their roles as the ganja-loving duo because Mandate has options on the actors for the third installment.

The first film garnered a cult following, earning $18 million domestically in 2004 and generating more than $30 million in DVD coinage. The sequel, which cost $12 million, earned $14.9 million its opening weekend before topping out at $38 million. Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo is set for release on DVD on Tuesday.

No production date has been set.
