Actor Harry Melling has taken on numerous roles throughout his career in the entertainment industry. Though the English star remains well known for playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter franchise, Melling recently revealed during an interview with Vanity Fair (via ScreenRant) that he's ready to move on from the role that initially shot him to fame. But, of course, even though the actor stated that he wants to move on from his iconic character, Melling noted that he remains deeply grateful for being able to participate in the series.

Based on J. K Rowling's besting books, the first movie in the Harry Potter film franchise, was directed by Chris Columbus and released back in 2001. In the first film, fans of the series were introduced to Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter, Rupert Grint's Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson's Hermione Granger. In addition, the first movie in the series also introduced audiences to Melling as Harry's obnoxious and spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley. Melling later went on to reprise the role in many of the Harry Potter sequels.

More recently, while promoting his new film, The Pale Blue Eye, Melling spoke with Vanity Fair and reflected on his thoughts on the franchise that earned him notoriety. Though it's been more than ten years since Melling last stepped into Dudley's shoes, the star said he remains very grateful to be a part of such a "brilliant" franchise. However, Melling also noted that he was ready to move on to new opportunities and focus his energy on new projects.

Harry Melling Appreciates Being a Part of "Something as Brilliant as Harry Potter"

Dudley Dursley Actor Feels Blessed to No Longer Be Recognized by Harry Potter Fans

When asked if he's become tired of being questioned about the Harry Potter franchise, Melling said, "No…I mean, the easy answer is yes, but that's not the full answer. I'm completely and overwhelmingly appreciative of being a part of something as brilliant as Harry Potter. I really am. I'm amazed at generationally how many people have been wrapped up in those stories. But it is amazing that something you did when you were 10 is still something that is very much a priority on the list of talking points. It's just something that I've kind of got used to in a certain sense."

Melling continued, "Part of the fascination is like when you talk about old schoolmates and, 'Oh, they're doing this now?' It's that same culture of being fascinated by, 'Oh, you'll never guess what so-and-so is doing. I completely get it, but it's a mixed bag of both feeling extremely grateful, but naturally, you want to move on. You want to be talking about the work that you're doing now."

Since playing Dudley, Melling has appeared in a variety of projects, such as The Lost City of Z, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Devil All The Time, The Queen's Gambit, and The Tragedy of Macbeth. Most recently, Melling stars opposite Christian Bale in Netflix's The Pale Blue Eye, a gothic horror film that sees the former Harry Potter star play a young version of Edgar Allen Poe.
