Dobby the house-elf may be alive and well after mysterious home security camera video captured something strange. The footage, which has since gone viral, features an alien-esque figure walking down a driveway and Harry Potter fans think it looks a lot like Dobby. The beloved character was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange in Deathly Hallows. He is buried at Shell Cottage, beneath a headstone bearing the epitaph "Here Lies Dobby, A Free Elf." So how is he back and caught on Muggle security footage?

Vivian Gomez's security camera caught the skinny, small creature walking away from her home. The footage was reportedly taken from her Facebook account late last week and has quickly gone viral because it looks a lot like Dobby from the Harry Potter franchise. As for the video being doctored through the use of CGI, it looks like the creature is real. There are reflections on the car and the house window that make it look very real. However, some have pointed out that there may be a second shadow setting the creature, or object, free. Gomez had this to say.

"First I saw the shadow walking from my front door then I saw this thing... has anyone else seen this on their cameras??"

It is unclear what the Dobby-looking creature is at this time, but the general consensus is that it's a puppet. If the second shadow theory is to be believed, a person set the puppet, which is able to walk on its own down the driveway off camera. With that being said, it is very impressive and looks very realistic. While Harry Potter fans prefer to say it looks like Dobby, there are others who believe it looks like the alien Mac from Paul Rudd's favorite movie Mac and Me.

As for anyone else's home security camera catching Dobby walking around, nobody else has seen him. Dobby news is big news since he was such a big part of the Harry Potter franchise. Author and creator J.K. Rowling recently apologized for killing the character off in 2018. It's been years since she made the decision to kill Dobby off, but fans are still very much hurt. She had this to say last year.

"This year, I apologize for killing someone who didn't die during the Battle of Hogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who'd win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf."

Dobby was a fiercely loyal elf and he helped the young Harry Potter out a lot. He was quick and had a "type of magic specific to house-elves," which was performed without a wand and includes the ability to apparate, disarm, and make objects levitate." With those kind of powers, it's hard to believe the home security footage is of the famous elf, who would know better than to get caught on Muggle technology.
